Alterations in Nassau and Sufolk is another way of creating value and usability for your home.

Alterations usually go in the same category as renovations and remodeling. When a client needs an
alteration that usually means changing some major characteristics of their home. This
means moving walls and ceilings and changing the flow and layout of the original
design.

When embarking on a home improvement project the word alteration might not
come up but sometimes it does. It all depends on who you're talking with. Contractors
on Long Island like myself will mention the word alteration. I like to think of
alterations as a project requiring the removal and reconfiguring of interior and exterior
walls and ceilings. It could be just a one room or whole house alteration but as long as
some walls are being moved around and/or removed I would consider it an alteration.

Alterations can cost any where from 10,000 to 1,000,000 and they can take place on
any floor of your home or a combination of floors. Alterations can happen in a
commercial or residential building. The square footage of your alteration can be the
size of your whole house or building or just take up a small percentage. Some times
the alteration is to large in scope for you to just have sketches and ideas. This would
require the services of an architect.

Having an architect draw up plans for you is one of the best things you can do. This
way you can discuss with the architect what you need and he or she will hopefully
guide you in the right direction. When an architect draws up plans then there's no
question on room sizes, window sizes and layout of the new design. It also notes that
the contractor is responsible to follow the building codes. It's pretty much a map for
the contractor to follow which you both agree on before the job starts.
